Session Synopsis

In this session, Virginia Kay and Dr Clare Woolhouse from Edge Hill University to explore how visual approaches have been used to investigate perceptions and experiences of inclusive education and to discuss challenging topics. 

This session will provide opportunities for the audience to engage with original materials created by children and to consider how resource ‘toolboxes’ might work in their own settings.  

Speaker Bio

Dr Clare Woolhouse is a Reader in Education at Edge Hill University. After completing her PGCE, Clare worked in two secondary schools and a further education college before moving into higher education. Clare adopts multi-sensory methodologies and pedagogies within her teaching and research to explore educational difference, inclusion and social justice.

Mrs Virginia Kay is the Course Leader for the National Award for SEN Co-ordination at Edge Hill University. Virginia’s professional experience includes 12 years teaching in a variety of settings across key stages 1, 2 and 3, including two years in the United States. She is credited with an in-depth knowledge of inclusion and SEN, in relation to both policy and practice and is passionate about inclusion and social justice within education, especially as this relates to learners with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
