Part funded by the DfE, the SEND Review Guide was created with the purpose of empowering schools to improve their SEND provision. It is made up of a paper-based audit, examples of good practice, guidance on how to carry out a review of SEND provision and self-evaluation templates. The SEND Review Guide was created in partnership with over forty outstanding special and mainstream schools, parents/carers of children with SEND as well as organisations such as Contact, Ofsted, the CDC, IOE and the TSC.

The guide helps schools to identify areas for improvement within their SEND provision; equip those supporting school improvement to review and create improvement plans for SEND provision and help embed a focus on SEND into normal school improvement practices.

The one day training goes through the stages needed to prepare for the review, the review itself and the write up that follows. Attendees will work with trainer to look at completed examples and discuss how the review can benefit your own school and how it can be adopted to be used in school to school support.

Here is what Sam Gilronan, Deputy Regional SEND Leader in the South West, had to say after attending our last training session:

"The SEND Reviewer training gave me a clear insight into how the SEND Review Guide can be used as a supportive platform to drive forward improvements in SEND practice in schools.  The training was interactive and provided a range of opportunities to explore the various aspects of the guide such as the self-evaluation document and evidence file.  Clear guidance was provided on how to conduct a review and how to report findings back to the school.  I left the training feeling confident about carrying out a SEND review and the positive impact that this could have."
