Poetry competition 2010 - Breaking down barriers
Winners announced
A group of young poetry writers from across the UK have excelled in creative writing and been rewarded at the prestigious fifth annual Inclusive Poetry Competition which was held at The Education show, Birmingham NEC and focused on the topic of ‘breaking down barriers’.
The winners and highly commended poets attended the ceremony along with their families and teachers. The event was hosted by Roger Stevens, Children’s author and poet who read some of his own poems as well as the award winning poems of the children.

There were six winners in total, three primary and three secondary all receiving goody bags full of prizes donated by exhibitors at the Education Show. They also won a £50 Amazon voucher each.
The judges Beverley Whitehead – nasen Secondary Advisory Group, Andrea Carr – Rising Stars and Marriette Roberts – nasen Primary Advisory Grouphad then decided on two overall winners, one primary and one secondary who won £500 of Rising Stars books for their school.

Nasen would like to thank the children and the adults who encouraged them to enter, the judges, Roger Stevens for hosting the competition and all those companies that donated prizes for the competition:
Rising Stars, Axis Education, Happy Secrets, Tamarind Books, The Novelty Warehouse, Warwick Castle , Cricksoft, Arriere Ban, EGAR, Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, Education Harbour and Historial de la Grande Guerre.
The competition, which began in 2006 is an annual nasen event which promotes the importance of Inclusive Practice in both primary and secondary schools. Lorraine Petersen, chief executive officer of nasen said:
“This year’s poetry anthology will be the fifth that nasen has produced and given its popularity we have decided to produce an anthology featuring all the poems from the last five years which will be available in early 2011.”
