Opportunity to take part in a MAT SEND Review

News - 17 Jul 2019

The Department for Education, through the SEND Schools’ Workforce contract with the Whole School SEND consortium, has provided funding to undertake an additional 16 MAT SEND reviews under our current contract.

Participating MATs will receive a free MAT SEND review, undertaken by a trained reviewer.  In order to meet contractual requirements, the review will need to take place between September 2019-March 2020. By the end of March 2020 a total of two MAT SEND Reviews will have been undertaken in each Regional School Commissioner area, including the 6 undertaken in 2018-19. We welcome applications from any size MAT, and aim to deliver reviews in:

4 Large MATs (over 13 schools)

3 Medium MATs (6-12 schools)

3 Small MATs (3-5 schools)

We are now looking for MATs to take part in the following regions:

  • Lancashire and West Yorkshire
  • North
  • East Midlands, South Yorkshire and the Humber
  • East of England and North East London
  • South Central England and North West London
  • South East England and South London.

For details of which areas are covered by which region, go to: ww.sendgateway.org.uk/whole-school-send/regions/

The time commitment required from the MAT is release time for the day of review and some preparation time beforehand.

About the MAT SEND Review Guide:

In 2017 the Department for Education funded the MAT SEND Review Guide, created with the purpose of supporting a Trust-wide approach to SEND. It can be downloaded from https://www.sendgateway.org.uk/whole-school-send/find-wss-resources.html

What a MAT SEND Review Involves:

The review is a one-day visit designed to support the trust in moving forward with its development and strategic plans in regard to SEND. The trust will use the Review Guide beforehand to evaluate where it is and then the day is effectively a professional dialogue around this between senior members of the trust and the reviewer to clarify and provide advice on priorities for the next stage of development.
