New funding for SEND announced
An additional £350 million has been announced by Damian Hinds to support children with complex needs and disabilities. This funding will provide specialist support and tailored facilities, including the creation of specialist places and facilities.
This funding is in addition to that announced earlier this year. Councils will receive an additional £250 million in the high needs budget over the next two years, and £100 million is to be invested to create more specialist places in mainstream schools, colleges and special schools. More special free schools will also be given the green light, as the Education Secretary will approve all high quality bids that are in the current round of applications for special and alternative free schools.
There will be an expansion of the funding to train more educational psychologists, with a further three training rounds from September 2020 and increase in the number of trainees from 160 to 206.
