Journal of Research in Special Educational Needs (JORSEN) FREE OF CHARGE TO ALL nasen MEMBERS From January 2008!


nasen promotes the development of children and young people with special educational needs (SEN) and supports those who work with them. nasen is the premier special needs Association in the United Kingdom, organising local, regional and national activities throughout Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England. nasen activities are supported by its office team based at nasen House, Tamworth, Staffordshire.


Support through regional and national networks
nasen is run by its members throughout  the UK. National, regional and local events, meetings and activities are organised either centrally from nasen House or by a number of local Branch networks.Through its local, regional  and national networks teachers, parents, governors and other professionals receive up-to-date information on special needs provision and practice in the UK. Through its national network, nasen is shaping and influencing policy at the highest levels. To support and direct this, nasen has six key professional advisory groups covering - Publications, Curriculum, Professional Development, Policy, Membership and Research with an Editorial Board supporting the development of nasen’s professional journals and magazine.


Regional and National Exhibitions
In association with the Times Educational Supplement and Educational Publishers Council and other partner organisations, nasen is responsible for the design of professional development seminar programmes to complement each main national resource exhibition. nasen members receive early notification of each event and substantial discounts on the comprehensive seminar programmes that accompany these events.


Meetings, Courses and Conferences
nasen offers well organised, relevant professional courses and conferences, which are heavily over-subscribed. nasen members receive early notification and preferential rates for these events. You can save more than the cost of the annual subscription on course fees alone.


Periodicals
nasen's periodicals keep you up-to-date with the latest developments in provision, policy, practice and roles throughout the field of special needs. Membership brings you three leading special needs periodicals; British Journal of Special Education, Support for Learning and Special! magazine. For an additional subscription you can also receive nasen's on-line journal the Journal of Research in Special Educational Needs. nasen journals welcome material from members. An ideal opportunity to get your work in print.


Publications
nasen publishes a comprehensive range of high quality publications written by practitioners for practitioners. Classroom handbooks promoting appropriate learning, providing access to the curriculum and supporting good educational practice offering value for money are all available to nasen members with an automatic 10% discount.


Our partnership with Routledge brings together nasen Publications written by practitioners for practitioners and Routledge Publishers, experts in educational publications. This partnership has the added benefit that members receive considerable discounts on hundreds of additional publications and resources. Members are encouraged to submit their own book proposals to the publications sub-committee who offer help and guidance to writers on request.


Policies
Through its policies nasen seeks to influence the whole education debate. During 2006, nasen produced its latest  policy on Partnership Working. Other nasen policies include Assessment, Pupil Participation and Early Years.


In addition to the benefits of subscribing to nasen, members can contribute to an Association that has a strong influence on policy and practice in the field of special educational needs through consultation and joint projects with other professional bodies including The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) , the DRC and QCA .


Members receive their own copies of each policy documents FREE as they are published.


Research
nasen’s Research sub-committee is able to access funding to encourage classroom based research. In addition, nasen has compiled a database of current and recently completed research in special needs in the UK. Access to the database via nasen's website is free to members.
